This past week, I had the opportunity to speak at Aviation Africa held at the Sandton Convention Centre, participating in a panel on training. It was a productive couple of days.
Aviation Africa 2024
There's a certain irony in an industry defined by movement often finding itself stationary when it comes to implementing change. One might say that discussions of collaboration frequently taxi to the runway but seldom take off.
Not to sound overly cynical, but I suspect many of you appreciate the sentiment. It's a familiar flight path: ambitious agendas set, only to be grounded by inertia once the conference concludes.
All that said, it was an honour to be invited, and I remain hopeful, perhaps, with a bit more thrust, some of these conversations will turn from words to actions.
PILOT PRODUCTIVITY:
To all the moms and dads navigating the busy intersections of professional life and parenthood, finding a moment for yourself can feel like searching for a quiet corner in a busy airport. Recently, I discovered a way to reclaim that personal time during my daily commute to Simaero: immersing myself in audiobooks through Audible. Instead of the usual children's tunes or animated stories, I started listening to "Dark Matter" .
It's incredibly refreshing to engage with content that stimulates the mind and offers a welcome escape from the routine. If you're looking to infuse a bit of personal enjoyment into your day, I highly recommend giving audiobooks a try. Trust me, it beats listening to Peppa Pig!
THIS WEEKS POD:
Staying connected is no longer a luxury, it's a necessity. United Airlines recognises this by partnering with SpaceX's Starlink to offer free, high-speed internet access to passengers. Installations will begin on select aircraft by late 2024, with over 200 planes equipped by the end of 2026.
Who knows, maybe soon, travelling wont be all that bad. I hope our local airlines in South Africa adopt Starlink once Cyril approves the service.
